One of the most profound moments of the 5th Edition of the Annual Ladies Camp was the deeply insightful mental health session led by Pastor Evelyn Fosu Amoah. More than a discussion on emotional wellness, the session became a sacred space for healing, self-reflection and renewed hope as women were encouraged to intentionally care for the health of their inner lives.
Drawing from Proverbs 4:23, Pastor Evelyn emphasised that the heart is the wellspring of life. Every decision we make, every relationship we build and every response we give is influenced by the condition of our hearts. To guard the heart, therefore, is to intentionally protect the mind, the will and the emotions from anything that hinders the life God desires for His children.
One of the session’s most memorable illustrations was the concept of a “mental wardrobe.” Just as we carefully choose the clothes we wear, we must also be intentional about the memories, thoughts and experiences we store within us. Painful experiences may shape our
journey, but they do not have to define our identity. We have the choice to clothe our minds with truth, hope, healing and the promises of God instead of continually wearing the weight of yesterday’s wounds.
The session also explored the biblical understanding of human nature. We are spirit, we have a soul and we live in a body. While physical health is important, our psychological and emotional well-being is rooted in the health of the soul—the realm of the mind, the will and the emotions. When these areas are neglected, they inevitably influence every aspect of life. Conversely, when they are surrendered to God, they become fertile ground for healing, wisdom, resilience and peace.
The atmosphere throughout the session was one that encouraged women to confront hidden pain without shame, release emotional burdens and embrace the healing that God freely offers. Many left with a renewed understanding that wholeness is not the absence of life’s challenges but the presence of God’s restoring work within the soul.
